Dr. (Brig.) Sankar Prasad Gorthi is a distinguished neurologist with over 35 years of extensive experience in clinical neurology, stroke medicine, neurocritical care, and academic neuroscience. He currently serves as Professor & Head of the Department of Neurosciences at Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College & Hospital, Pune. An alumnus of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), he completed his MBBS, MD, DM (Neurology), and DNB qualifications before joining the Indian Army Medical Corps in 1984. He retired as Brigadier and Professor & HOD of Neurology from Army Hospital (R&R), New Delhi, in 2016. Dr. Gorthi’s areas of expertise
include stroke, Parkinson’s disease, movement disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuroimmunology, and neurodegenerative disorders. He has undergone advanced training in Movement Disorders at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. A respected academician and researcher, he has contributed significantly to neurological research and postgraduate teaching. He has received several prestigious recognitions, including the ML Soni Award and the Sardar Patel Award for Excellence in Neurosciences Research for his outstanding contributions to advanced neurological care and research.
